HISTORY OF ATLAS

In 2006, ATLAS formed a chapter in Lyon County, Iowa, based out of Rock Rapids located at 112 1st Ave. Shortly thereafter, the opportunity became available for ATLAS to own 113 1st Avenue (the building across the street from the office and "Lost, But Found" thrift store) as ATLAS was outgrowing its office space and desiring to further small group fellowships. This location is referred to as the ATLAS Ministry Center.

The word ATLAS is an acronym for our mission of helping our neighbors "Attain Truth, Love, and Self-Control." The most profound truth that we can ever know is that God loves us. God's unconditional love flows through us all. John told us that when we love one another, God lives in us, and His love for us is perfected. The purpose of self-control is not to earn God's love, but to "live up to what we have already attained" (Philippians 3:16 NV). Our mission areas are to 1) Help the hurting, 2) Equip the Saints, and 3) Unite the Community. To do this, we invite the entire community to be a part of God's movement.

ATLAS is grounded in mentoring. By expanding mentoring opportunities to the community, a handful of one-on-one mentoring relationships were prayerfully and successfully developed. The vision of ATLAS is that individuals in our area bless each other with intentional Christian friendship, a listening ear, spiritual encouragement and prayer by providing neighborly support: meeting together for walks, talks, meals, devotions, events or whatever suits the pair or group! Partnering together by strengthening the presence, existence and accessibility to Christian community in the Lyon County we strive to embody what Ecclesiastes 4: 9a and 10 says: "Two are better than one…if one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up."

Without a doubt, ongoing contribution to ATLAS of Lyon County is helping, equipping and uniting people to one another and to the Lord. ATLAS requests continued prayers as it further thinks of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works (Hebrews 10:24, NLT).
